Finding Balance and Prioritising Self-Care

Updated: Jan 29

By: Johari Kiemo

When I was balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal life, I struggled to prioritize self-care. It felt like I was always running on empty.

Feeling burnt out and having no access to young people who had gone through similar changes, I felt very lost. I wish I had access to resources such as Y4Y to help guide me. Through lack of resources, it also sparked a passion within me to help the youth facing similar situations as me during high school, drawing me to youth volunteer work and finding myself at Y4Y!

At Youth 4 Youth, we believe in the power of shared experiences.

Growing up, myself and many others felt the absence of role models who could speak to our unique journeys—people close to our age who understood our struggles and successes.

This page is already an amazing resource to bridge that gap. It’s where we share real stories, practical advice, and creative reflections to inspire and empower each other. Whether it’s navigating academic stress, finding your passion, or overcoming barriers, we’re here to provide relatable, authentic perspectives.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we work, learn and live, and we pay our respects to Indigenous Elders past, present, and emerging.

Sovereignty has never been ceded. It always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
